this is the first major league baseball post-season game to come to the district in nearly eight decades. how do you like that? kristin fisher joins us live. she is on the field at the beautiful nats park. good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. if only i could just stay here, right? we're just seven hours away from the start of the first post-season game ever here at nats park. if you are one of the fans lucky enough to be coming down here, you know you've got to be rocking the red, right? if you do, look at this. this is a brand new shirt that has just come out. eight going to go on sale at 10:30 this morning. so come on down, pick it up. there's going to be lots of other post-season merchandise on sale that we haven't even seen yet. so it should be some good stuff. now, i want to go over some logistics for all you guys. it's going to be absolutely insane here. i want to make sure if you are coming, you know what to do, where to go, when things open, that sort of stuff. the most important thing that everybody here is telling me is make sure you bring the right

ticket. it sounds silly but the ticket you need to bring says nlds home game one. there's some confusion because this is game three. there's a concern people might be bringing game three tickets. don't do that. check your ticket very well. make sure you bring nlds home game 1. gates open at nats park at 10:30 this morning. two and a half hours prior to game time. the box office will be opening an hour and a half earlier at 9:00 a.m. this is important, people, because if you still want to come to this game, you can still come. there are a limited quantity of standing room only tickets still available but you can only get them at 9:00 when the box office opens. so come on down. get here early. we'll be out there. we'll probably try to interview you while you're in line. it's just such an exciting day. there's nobody here yet and you can already feel the energy. there are folks making sure the field is ready, the seats are

clean. they're hosing down the dugout. lots of activity here even though we're still a ways away. several hours away from the first pitch. one more thing. when you get here and gates open at 10:30, they're going to have something a bit different than during the regular season. for instance, they're going to have live music taking place. the miller light scoreboard walk once the gates open. 30,000 fans are going to be receiving promotional items at each post-season game. they'll likely be distributed at all the gates. then there's stuff for the kids. face painting, balloon art, caricatures. there's going to be a lot of activity out here. it's just so neat to be standing out here on the field where our boys are going to be playing in just a few short hours. i'm so excited. my natitude has ignited. how about you? you coming to the game? >> we're going to try to get tickets. it's not easy. >> all right, kristin. just a few hours away. 6:05 now.

in less than a month, all of the americans will be headed to the polls, at least those that are registered to vote for president. >> astaire a mergener -- as tara mergener reports, voters in ohio will probably decide who wins. >> reporter: mitt romney and his supporters have a new message for president obama. romney has three more campaign stops in ohio today for a very good reason. no republican has won the presidency without carrying ohio. >> i want you to go out there and find someone who voted for barack obama and get him to come join our team. >> reporter: romney's ohio poll numbers are surging as more voters are connecting. >> this country is a country of equal opportunity. i think that everybody has an equal chance to succeed and i think romney kind of is for that. >> reporter: president obama is back in washington today.

his election staff is still in ohio. the obama campaign has 1 ten field offices -- 120 field offices spread across the pivotal state. in columbus the president reminded voters which candidate supported the industry bailout. >> we invented a dying auto industry that supports one in eight ohio jobs and has come roaring back to the top of the world. >> reporter: ohio senior citizen bill todd believes the president has earned another four years in the white house. >> he's got my vote because four years ago the country was in bad shape. he's done everything he possibly could from the day he went in office. >> reporter: romney is spending four of the next five days in ohio. the president is also certain to be back during the final weeks of this very tight race. tara mergener for cbs news, washington. tomorrow it will be vice president joe biden and romney's running mate paul ryan squaring off in their only debate before election day. here to talk about what each man has to do and not do is the

white house correspondent for "u.s.a. today." good to have you back with us. before we started our interview, you said the obama administration has to stop the bloodletting or as you said bedwetting. that's the onerous on joe biden tomorrow because the president's performance was not good. >> it wasn't good. not that mitt romney beat president obama -- i'm not sure if he did, but barack obama did not look good last week. what vice president biden has to do is stop the bleeding. >> what does paul ryan need to do to keep the momentum going that mitt romney accelerated last week? >> both these candidates are really smart guys that know washington, know how buckets work. -- budgets work. that's what paul ryan's specialty is. he has to show his expertise. this is a great opportunity for

him to introduce himself to the american people again and to show take he's somebody that we can credibly believe is one heart beat away frbing president -- from being president. >> we don't vote for vice president. we do vote for them but you know what i'm saying. that's not why you go to the polls and elect the top of the ticket. does the debate really mean that much in the long run? >> typically these debates are memorable for gaffes and faults. >> joe biden has provided us many. >> but he's a great debater. he was fantastic four years ago and walk add fine line against a candidate that was considered to be a lightweight. so he had to show that he was one, a heavy which he was but not crush her. he did both of those things. he backed up the president's positions. it was a little easier position than he is in now, but this is a guy that knows what he's doing. >> paul ryan has to talk to us

[ laughter ] >> thank you, andrea. >> give him a beer. >> weather wise, a little cool, a little damp this morning but it's going to be a great afternoon. i'll get you later. sunshine and temperatures warmer than they have been. we'll make 70 degrees. let's start you off with a look at bus stop forecast. big range in temps. we have low 40s in western maryland in the northern shenandoah valley. mid and upper 50s d.c. south and east. this patchy fog, spotty drizzle. we're going to burn that stuff off in a few hours. it will be much betterly lunch time. by 11:00 sunny, 62. this afternoon mid-60s. at 1:00 p.m. nats park, first pitch 107. then this afternoon we're going up to around 71 for the high. that happen abouts 4:00 or so. 5:00 -- happens about 4:00 or so. 5:00 69 degrees. decent to the right home. this morning uniform across the region with mid-50s in anne arundel and prince george's county. you see the 56 in crofton. 55 in upper marlboro. 56 in alexandria. a degree or two cooler in

montgomery county. rockville and bethesda at 54. same story in fairfax and reston. our cool spot northern loudoun county lovettsville 46. some cloudiness out there. decent visibility. it's not as clear as it has been the last couple of mornings. 57 with a south wind at 3 and humidity at 88%. those winds will kick up out of the southwest ahead of a cold front headed our way. you can certainly see that front with 50s from nashville, 60s in dallas and 30s north and west of that boundary. some 20s from casper in bismarck. this cooler air is moving off to the south and east. we'll be 70, 72 this afternoon. the next couple of days once this front passes late this afternoon, we'll cool down. looking at highs in the mid-60s before we rebound tomorrow. you do see the front with the showers through detroit. looks like most of that moisture is going to stay north of the mason-dixon line. as we look at the future cast, we'll see the early clouds really get the kick out of here. it will be kicked out of here as the front approaches. southwesterly winds. sunshine here at 1:00.

reportedly been cleared to practice. now, this doesn't guarantee that he'll be able to play sunday against minnesota, but it is of course a very good sign. rg3 will participate in noncontact drills and be evaluated all week long. only a couple of players on the nationals roster have actual playoff experience. several of the young guys say players like jason werth around adam la roche and today's starting pitcher edwin jackson have been a wealth of knowledge before and during the post season. now they hope that experience pays off with jackson on the mound. the nationals were all smiles yesterday in a voluntary practice. monday night's crushing loss by st. louis 150e78d just like a distant -- seemed just like a distant memory. now the club is focused on giving fans a victory. >> i think the fans, you know, when they have a team to root for and a team that has a chance to be a winner every year, it's a lot more exciting for them. like i said, they've been

kristin fisher is right there in nats park with more on today's game. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. just simply a fact that we're having this post-game -- post- season game here at nats park, such a huge deal when you think about it. the last time this city had a post-season baseball game was back in 1933. prohibition had just ended. there was no such thing as sz. and the average -- as social security and the average cost of a home just $6,000. it's pretty amazing. joining me now chief operating officer of the washington nationals andy feffer. when you look back at how long this has been, 79 years. is it hard to believe that you're here today? >> it's amazing. i look out on the field and sow the post-season logos. the franchise is only 7 years old. who thought at the beginning of the year we would be talking post-season baseball for the first time. >> reporter: everywhere you look you see the hash tag post-

season natitude. talk about how the fans and the media have embraced this young team and it's taken off. >> october natitude starts here. our players inspired it with their play. the fans adopted it. there's this energy and vibe you feel not just the ballpark but in washington. a community that has rallied around the team. in the middle of the election and politics and contention there, everybody in washington is together on the nationals. >> reporter: as we stand here on the field, it's so quiet but you can still almost feel the excitement building. can you put into words what this moment means for you personally and the team? >> i've been in sports for almost 25 years. this is the first time i've even been near the post-season to have a team do that. i think as a washingtonian myself, the fact that the city of washington has a baseball team, we didn't have one for 30 years till seven years ago. now we're in the post season. it's a pretty special moment for everyone from washington to

then took off in a cab. the man was last seen wearing a dark suit and tie and dark nationals baseball hat and sunglasses. former d.c. council chair kwame brown is in more trouble this morning. he's been placed under a curfew in order to make weekly visits with court officials. this order came yesterday after brown failed to make three required phone calls. he resigned as you remember last june after pleading guilty to bank fraud and a misdemeanor campaign finance violation. an angry judge richard leon told brown he's not putting himself in the best position ahead of his sentencing and warned him not to, quote, tempt fate. howard brooks should learn his fate later today. brooks was the former campaign consultant to d.c. mayor vincent gray who admitted to secretly funneling money to former candidate suleman brown. it was all part after campaign designed to improve gray's chances when it came to the election. the 64-year-old brooks pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice last may. officers suspected foul

play almost from the beginning. now a reporter's death has been ruled murder and they're looking for her killer. sarah libby greenhalgh was found dead in her burning home in july. we learned yesterday she died from a gunshot wound to her neck. she worked for the winchester star. lawyers for jerry sandusky say they plan to appeal his lengthy sentence on child sex abuse charges. several of sandusky's victims were in a pennsylvania courtroom tuesday when a judge sentenced sandusky to at least 30 years behind bars. the former penn state assistant football coach will be 98 years old before he can even be considered for parole. >> key have imposed a sentence of many centuries. there's really no point to it. he impose add life sentence. >> before sentencing, sandusky addressed the judge and maintained his innocence. he will now undergo psychological and medical exams before he's assigned to prison. get this. airline screeners in japan let a guy armed to the teeth board

a plane to los angeles. the guy walked off the plane into lax wearing a trench coat. underneath that trench coat bulletproof body armor, flame retardant pants. so then authorities said probably should check his luggage. when they did that they found a hatchet, knives, smoke grenade, three billy clubs, even a biohazards suit. >> what are they saying in japan? another high powered executive is feeling the heat for chopping down trees overlooking the c&o canal on the potomac. lockheed's c.e.o. robert stevens admits he cleared 25,000 square feet of trees located when the prestigious merry go round enclave off river road. redskin owner dan snyder also ran into trouble for cutting down trees without permission. he lives up the street from stevens. a lawyer for stevens says he had the woods thinned out because last june's derecho caused so much damage on his property. the executive says he paid

use consumer shopping tools like price comparison sites, google shopping, things like that to find retailers that have the lowest prices on the items you're looking for the next step is to utilize a coupon site like retailmenot to look for coupons from the retailers and then you decide where to make your purchase. because people are shopping so early, retailers are responding and trying to engage those consumers so there will be great deals to be found right now. >> it's unbelievable to think that you can do your christmas shopping now. so another way to save this year, you suggest maybe thinking about putting our gift list on a diet. tell us about that. >> yes. i really feel that people are buying for too many people and they're also spending too much. we found that seven in ten people intend to spend up to $100 per person and actually two in ten intend to go up to $250 per person. my suggestion would be cut that back quite a bit and also maybe do a white elephant for the
